About & methodology

Discovery needs context.

HackerTube Explorer is an independent product concept for making video discovery more deliberate. It is designed around a simple principle: source claims should be as easy to inspect as the video itself.

Independent by design

This site is not affiliated with HackerTube, Hacker News, YouTube, Y Combinator, or Andrej Karpathy. It must never be presented as an official source.

A provenance-first catalogue

The current catalogue is generated from a source-attributed subset of HackerTube’s public ODC-By export. Every displayed recommendation includes a retained HN discussion link.

How we label content

Documented HN source

The entry has at least one retained Hacker News discussion record that can be opened by a visitor.

Source check in progress

This label is reserved for future imports. Such a record can be browsed, but cannot claim HN discussion until its source connection is verified.

Discussion-based context

The short context shown here comes from the HackerTube video record and its labeled HN discussion data. It is not presented as a transcript or as a replacement for the source video.

Data attribution

Built with HackerTube public data.

This catalogue includes data from HackerTube’s public export, available under ODC-By 1.0. HackerTube remains the original project and data source; Explorer is a transparent companion, not a replacement or an impersonation.
